Student Sample Schedule
Enriching Education, Fostering Community
Davidson Academy's Campus is a unique environment, bringing together students from all over the country to be a part of a community of intellectual peers. Many have spent years in school feeling isolated, different from others, always having to push themselves academically on their own. At Davidson, students find their group—other kids as gifted, motivated, and excited to learn as they are, no matter their age.
Rigorous Coursework
After mingling with peers throughout the hallways and being greeted by staff members before school, students begin their day in class. Courses are in-depth, challenging, and discussion based (even in math)! Students participate in collaborative learning and group work throughout the curriculum. Instructors are available to answer questions and provide support both in and outside of class.
Lunchtime!
Lunch is a time for food, fun, and connection. The mid-day break provides students the opportunity to take advantage of the University food court, catch up with peers, play outside, and participate in clubs and activities. Whether students are playing basketball in the courtyard or supporting a club fundraiser, there is always something to do! On occasion, students can also attend presentations at lunch given by university sponsored guest speakers, professors, or fellow students in the PALs program.
Extracurriculars
Student life extends beyond the classroom. After school, students participate in a variety of extracurricular activities including sports, music, clubs, and community service after school. Some find themselves working, in a university lab or at a local restaurant. Students also return to school to enjoy events like dances and game nights.
SAMPLE CLASS SCHEDULE
Student schedules are designed around the unique needs of gifted learners. Classes are small, with an average of ten students, to promote personalized learning and attention. The daily schedule includes six periods and lunch, with a 5-minute break between each class.
Core classes meet Monday through Thursday. Most elective classes are offered as two-hour blocks on Friday, although there are some electives offered Monday through Thursday. In addition, nearly every student has an hour-long study hall block each day to work independently or meet with teachers and peer tutors. Students are also able to get editing assistance from highly-qualified peers in the Writing Center.
